A note on event organizing and towns:
In Wisconsin there are Counties, Cities, Villages, and TOWNS. Most states
do not have towns...they have townships. A township typically does not
have an regulatory authority. In Wisconsin, unincorporated areas are not
townships...but TOWNS...and they have some level of regulatory authority.
In most cases, towns have authority over their local roads in their area.
When organizing an event (and especially a race that will require closing
the roads), you will want to contact local officials at all levels of
government who will be effected by the event...including towns. In many
cases (for events that the roads will not need to be closed for), the
contact will be for courtesy's sake only...as a bicycle event that does
not require closing the roads may not require any special permitting depending
on the jurisdication. But for the sake of a smooth running event, take
a moment to make the contact and be nice to the locals...you'll thank
yourself later on. Don't know who to contact? Start with the town/village
chair/president or town/village clerk.
