Smooth Ride Over the Hoan At 35th Annual UPAF Ride

Thanks to Kyle Dlabay, Director of Special Events, for this update about the UPAF Ride for the Arts, which will include the Hoan Bridge on the 25 mile route. The UPAF ride is Sunday, May 31st.

The view from the Hoan offers more than some can bare to look at!

This year’s UPAF Ride for the Arts will once again feature the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge as part of one of the 25-mile routes. The Hoan Bridge is in the midst of a construction project. However, the west side of the bridge features new concrete and will provide a smoother ride for participants who take part in this route. The views from the Hoan Bridge are unmatched in the city of Milwaukee.

Since the UPAF Ride is the only chance you get to see those views from a bicycle, be sure to register. This is the 35th year for what has grown to be one of the largest recreational cycling events in the country.

This is the view most people who do the 25 mile Hoan Bridge route will remember.

Ride for all – get involved!

While many people ride all year round, the UPAF Ride for the Arts is a great way to kick off the summer biking season and an opportunity for many riders to get back in the saddle. With six routes ranging from five miles to 66 miles, there’s a distance for everyone in the Ride for the Arts. The Ride is supported by local municipalities and over 600 volunteers make sure that the event is safe for everyone.

FAQ: Parrots need not register unless they are pedaling a bicycle.

The Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite, is the largest annual fundraising event for the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF), which is a nonprofit organization that provides financial resources to the performing arts in Southeastern Wisconsin.

UPAF is the single largest donor to each of its 15 Member Groups, some of the finest performing arts organizations in the country, including First Stage, Florentine Opera Company, Milwaukee Ballet, The Rep, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Skylight Music Theatre.

Ride for a Cause

Participating riders are encouraged to raise pledges as part of their involvement. The entry fee helps to cover the cost of the event, but collecting pledges in addition to the entry fee increases the impact in helping to sustain our vibrant performing arts groups. If all 6,000 riders gathered just $100 each (asking 10 people for $10), we’d raise an incredible $600,000 for the performing arts!

Hope to see you on the Hoan Bridge on Sunday May 31st. For more information, please visit www.UPAFRide.org where you can register and raise pledges for the UPAF Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite.
