The Decline of Car Culture

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to chat with Steve Walters at WisconsinEye about the decline of car culture. Along with Rob Kennedy, Transportation Planner for UW-Madison and Carl Scrhoedl, a Madison bicycle enthusiast, we analyzed the signs that car dependency is on the decline and hypothesized what this will mean for communities in the future.

We anticipate seeing demand shift from single occupancy vehicles and expansive highways to more environmentally, socially and economically friendly transportation sources. Because of this shift, it will be interesting to see how quickly municipalities that will benefit the most from this movement, will be able to adapt here in Wisconsin.
