The Bike Fed visits the Tour de France

Several weeks ago, I received a call from Bike Fed member, friend, and volunteer, Mark Harrod. He wanted to know if he could purchase Bike Fed gear to take with him on his trip to the Tour de France. Could I get a jersey and bib shorts for him to sport while riding some of the Tour de France routes? Heck yes! I’m not sure who was more excited – me or him!

Just a few days before his departure, Mark was able to stop by our office and purchase the whole kit: Bike Fed jersey, Bike Fed bib shorts, and Bike Fed socks. He also borrowed a Bike Fed banner to display at the top of a few of the hill climbs. He was set!

Mark describes his experience below.

“I was lucky enough to spend my honeymoon in Europe this July with my wife, Dana, and even luckier she let me follow a few stages of the Tour de France (the 100th edition). We are both proud Wisconsin Bike Fed members, and it was a thrill wearing Bike Fed gear up Mont Ventoux, Alp d’Huez and along the Champs Élysées. Though I couldn’t understand many conversations – cycling is so very popular in non-English speaking parts of the world – it was obvious that each spectator had a common respect for each other. It’s the happiest I’ve ever seen such a large group. All because of a bike or a ride or the shared experiences that those things have given us. My wife and I are privileged to live in such a beautiful part of the world. We encourage you to ride as often and as safely as possible, and we are so happy to have such a strong bicycling advocate in our backyard. Allez Bike Fed! Allez Wisconsin!  Viva le Tour!”
