In prepartation for a great and safe summer of cycling, the Bella Donnas, a women’s bike club in Milwaukee, asked me to teach a Ride Leader and City Cycling Skills class to their members. More than 35 women showed up, making this the first class I taught in nine years that was standing room only!
In our Milwaukee office conference room, we reviewed how to deal with everthing from basic to advanced traffic situations and the laws that apply to cycling. Then we headed out to the street to practice traffic skills, like scanning, straight line riding, the rock dodge, and quick turns. Even the more experienced women learned something new. According to Westside Bellas Ride Leader and experience urban rider Eileen Seeger, “I hoped I would learn one thing but I learned quite a few things, especially how useful it is to learn emergency handling and avoidance techniques.”
Due to demand, there will be another free Savvy City Cyclng for Women Class. All woman are invited, you do not need to be a Bike Fed or Bellas member for this FREE class. Join us and learn the skills you need to be a confident rider.
