Summary of February 2008 Board of Directors Meeting

The BFW Board of Directors met February 2, 2008 at the BFW Milwaukee office for its quarterly board meeting, and to further work on the BFW Strategic Plan. Below is a summary of the actions and decisions by the Board of Directors.

Strategic Planning

The Board of Directors furthered its strategic planning by focusing on its three vision areas: Advocacy, Coordination and Education. Board members worked to develop short term and long-term goals for each vision area. These three vision committees will provide concrete goals and objectives by the board's May 10 meeting. It is the hope of the board to develop a draft plan to share with its members as a result of the May 10 meeting.

Board Meeting

Advocacy: The BFW is supporting several DOT supported legislative initiatives such as allowing lights to replace rear reflectors, using right arm to signal a turn; and AB258, which allows employers to incentivize healthy employee activities. The board also adopted a resolution to develop a collaborative partnership with the Mississippi River Trail Inc.

Operational: At the end of 2007, pre-audit, it looks like BFW has approximately a $30,000 surplus this year. The board approved a number of operational resolutions to help the board and BFW work in an efficient and transparent manner, including electronic meetings resolution to outline how these are conducted; public participation resolution provides direction for public input at board meetings; and clarification of rules regarding access to and safe keeping of our membership list to protect your privacy.

The BFW Board of Directors voted to assimilate the Bike Wisconsin Education and Action Coalition a 501(c)4a organization. The Board however realizes this may not be an active venture until 2009 at the earliest.

Three board members (at their own expense) and one staff member will be attending the National Bike Summit in Washington DC in April.
